Spain has sent a resounding warning to Portugal and the rest of Europe's elite: “La Furia Roja” is in demolition mode and showcased the most dominant performance of the World Cup so far, crushing Austria 3-0 in Los Angeles. This result not only secured their place in the Round of 16 but also solidified Spain's title bid, leaving direct rivals on high alert—especially Portugal, which could face the Spaniards in the next stage.

The team led by Luis de la Fuente took to the field already having secured first place in Group H, but they did not ease off the gas. The match started with some balance, as both teams studied each other in the first 20 minutes. Yamal, the Barcelona prodigy, was one of the few to create danger, while on the Austrian side, Gregoritsch threatened with a header in the 18th minute. The true transformation of the Spanish side occurred after the hydration break: the speed and intensity increased, and Spain took control of the game, creating successive chances.

Despite the resistance of goalkeeper Schlager, who made several top-level saves against shots from Yamal and Oyarzabal, it was only a matter of time before Spanish dominance translated into goals. In the 36th minute, Cucurella made a run down the left, assisting Oyarzabal, who, unmarked, opened the scoring with a precise deflection. The Spanish avalanche continued, and despite Austria's attempts to level the game, they never managed to counter the opposing pressure. The halftime whistle blew with only a one-goal difference, a misleading value given Spain's superiority.

In the second half, the Spaniards raised their game even further. Their control of the match became total, with the team recovering balls in the attacking midfield and giving Austria no chance to breathe. The second goal came in the 66th minute, resulting from a well-worked collective play: Baena crossed from the right to Pedro Porro, a former Sporting player, who appeared in the area like a true striker and headed the ball into the back of the net. Austria tried to respond through aerial plays, but the headers from Kalajdzic and Posch were harmless.

The third and final goal came naturally. After another attack from Cucurella on the left, Oyarzabal anticipated the Austrian defenders and, facing Schlager, remained composed, scoring his second goal of the match and sealing the result that places Spain in the round of 16 as a team to be feared. This was undoubtedly the best performance by the Spanish side in this World Cup, where they have yet to concede a goal.

At the end of the match, Luis de la Fuente did not hide his satisfaction: “It was the response we wanted to give. We knew about Austria's quality, but we showed that we are ready for any opponent. We want to continue to grow in this tournament,” said the Spanish coach, still on the pitch at the Los Angeles Stadium. Oyarzabal, the star of the night with two goals, emphasized: “This victory is for our fans. We are focused and want to bring the trophy home.”

For Portugal, this display serves as a serious warning. Should they surpass Croatia, the Quinas will have to face a Spain on the rise, filled with confidence and the means to challenge any opponent. The defensive solidity, combined with attacking creativity and high pressing ability, makes the Spanish national team one of the top favorites for the World Cup title.

The Spaniards advance to the round of 16 unbeaten, boasting an impressive average of goals scored and an impenetrable defense. Expectations are now building regarding a potential Iberian clash, which promises to be one of the most anticipated matchups in the next stage. The World Cup is heating up, and Portugal cannot ignore the warning: the “Furia Roja” is on the move and ready to fight for their second World Cup title in history.
