Johan Manzambi shone with two goals that dashed the hopes of Bosnia and Herzegovina and triggered an offensive avalanche from Switzerland, bringing the Swiss national team closer to qualification for the knockout stage of the World Cup. At SoFi Stadium, Switzerland defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1 in a match that remained balanced for more than an hour before erupting into a frantic finish.
In front of more than 70,000 spectators in Los Angeles, Switzerland managed to unlock a tense match in the final minutes, taking advantage of a succession of goals and a red card that completely tilted the game. With a numerical advantage, Switzerland did not miss their chance. Embolo was again involved in the build-up to the second goal, assisting Ruben Vargas, who finished with quality. From that point on, the Swiss completely dominated the match. Near the end of regulation time, Vargas served Manzambi again, who showed composure in front of goal to net his second goal of the night and put the score at 3-0.
Bosnia and Herzegovina tried to respond. Ermin Mahmic, in only his third international appearance, scored a beautiful volley from the edge of the area, reducing the deficit and offering a brief moment of hope to his team. However, the Swiss response was immediate. Already in stoppage time, Djibril Sow was brought down in the area, and Granit Xhaka converted the penalty with complete calm, restoring the three-goal difference and definitively closing the discussion.
Swiss coach Murat Yakin was naturally pleased with how the team resolved the match, while Manzambi’s performance promises to put him in the spotlight in the coming weeks. “We played with conviction and intensity,” Xhaka stated after the match. “This is what is needed in a World Cup. We want to keep moving forward.”
The captain’s words reflect Switzerland’s positive momentum, gaining confidence precisely at the most important stage of the competition.
