Amanda Anisimova reveals how Wimbledon is her ideal refuge.

Amanda Anisimova has once again surprised Wimbledon by securing her place in the third round of the prestigious British tournament, making it clear that the London grass has become her ideal refuge to escape the pressures of the circuit. Following a dramatic victory against Sofia Kenin, the 24-year-old American tennis player is now preparing for a high-stakes duel with Madison Keys, in a clash that promises intense emotions and could determine the immediate future of her career.

With her qualification secured on Thursday, July 2, Anisimova continues her journey at the All England Club, where she reached the final last year, only to be stopped by Polish player Iga Swiatek. This season, she occupies sixth place in the world rankings and knows she has many points to defend — should she falter, she could drop out of the top 8, a scenario that would increase the pressure she already feels on her shoulders. So far, she has won two matches at Wimbledon: the first against Lina Gjorcheska and the second, a tougher battle, against compatriot Kenin.

The victory over Kenin was anything but calm. Anisimova started strong, winning the first set decisively by breaking her opponent's serve twice, but in the second set, she saw Kenin respond and take the match to a deciding set. In the final set, Kenin took the lead at 3-1, but Anisimova, visibly frustrated and shouting several times at her own bench, managed to recover, bringing the match to a tie-break, which she won 7-6 (3). In the end, she celebrated exuberantly, bringing her hand to her ear and asking for the crowd's support, demonstrating that she does not easily succumb to pressure.

In the aftermath of the meeting, Anisimova explained how she has found Wimbledon to be the perfect place to disconnect from competitive stress and recharge her energies. “I love the subway; I took it on the first day I arrived, although it was because I was too lazy to walk back and only went one stop. I find it fun because in Miami I'm always driving, and I don't really like that. When I'm in cities where I can take the train, I really enjoy that experience. It's a good way to clear my mind. Usually, it means I'm going to explore somewhere or do something during my free time, and so far everything has been going really well,” the tennis player shared at the press conference following her victory. These statements reveal a more relaxed side of Anisimova, who seems to have found a rare balance between competition and leisure in London—something that could be crucial for her performance in the tournament.

However, the pressure is undeniable. The American, despite having reached a final this season, has yet to defend any of her titles, and expectations at Wimbledon are extremely high. In recent matches, she has shown some emotional instability, frequently shouting at her team, which has not gone unnoticed by experts. To move forward, she will need to demonstrate more emotional control, especially against an opponent like Madison Keys, who is in great form and recently won the Eastbourne title for the third time.

Before the tournament began, Anisimova stated: “I am just focused on the moment, trying not to think that I have many points to defend in this second half of the season.” Her recent record is also not encouraging: she has 16 wins and 8 losses this year, which falls short of expectations for a player of her caliber. Regarding her match with Keys, Anisimova admitted: “It's very nice what she said about my backhand; the truth is that I feel the same about her and her game. She's a player who hits very hard, one of the best on the circuit, so I am sure it will be a great match. I believe we both have very similar styles, so I am convinced that we will push each other to raise our level during the match.”

The match between Anisimova and Keys, scheduled for Saturday, July 4, promises to be one of the most anticipated of this stage of the competition. Keys is experiencing an excellent moment, having won seven matches in the last ten days on grass, which increases the difficulties for Anisimova. Nevertheless, the American holds the advantage in their head-to-head record, with one victory in their previous encounters against her compatriot.

With Wimbledon entering its decisive phase, Amanda Anisimova knows she is facing a unique opportunity to solidify her position among the elite of world tennis. A victory against Keys would not only secure the defense of crucial points but also serve as a clear signal that the American is ready to compete for important titles again. The relaxed atmosphere she found in London could be the missing key to elevate her game and surprise the sports world once more. The coming days will be crucial to see if Anisimova can transform her refuge at Wimbledon into a true stage of triumph.
