Alexander Zverev is one step away from realizing the dream that has pursued him for years: to win the coveted Grand Slam title. At Roland Garros, the German tennis player confirmed his status as the favorite by defeating the promising Czech Jakub Mensik in four sets (7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3), in an intense battle that lasted three hours and secured him a place in the final of the Paris tournament. This will be Zverev’s second final at Roland Garros and his fourth appearance in Major finals in his career, placing him among the five active players with the most finals in this tournament, alongside names like Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

From the very beginning, Zverev made it clear that he was not going to make things easy. Although Mensik created the first opportunities, even putting the German under pressure with three break points, the world number three remained calm and responded with effective serving that nullified all threats. The decisive moment of the first set came at 5-5, when Mensik faltered and missed a crucial drop shot, allowing Zverev to close the set in the following game.

In the second set, Zverev’s dominance became even more evident. Taking advantage of a poorly executed drop shot from Mensik, the German secured a break that gave him total control of the match. The Czech, visibly shaken, committed a painful double fault that cost him his serve, allowing Zverev to close the set with a commanding 6-2.

Despite taking a break for treatment on his neck, Mensik returned to the court with renewed determination in the fourth set, managing a crucial break to lead 3-2, keeping his hopes alive. However, Zverev responded intelligently, opting for an extended toilet break to regain his focus. This pause made all the difference: the German returned with a renewed mindset and capitalized on an easy error from his opponent to quickly recover the break. Even after wasting two opportunities for a double break at 4-1, Zverev remained unfazed and sealed the match with authority.

In the final, the German champion will face one of the two Italian talents, Matteo Arnaldi or Flavio Cobolli, who are competing in a historic duel for a place in the final, scheduled for 7:00 PM at Court Philippe-Chatrier. Zverev thus emerges as the leading candidate to finally secure his first Grand Slam title, in a tournament where he has already shown that this time he is determined not to let the dream slip away.
